POLICE INCIDENT REPORT
Deceased: 1
Reporting / discovering person
Mr. Cole contacted emergency services at approximately 4:18 a.m. after hearing what he believed to be a single gunshot from the direction of Flat 13E.
Initial dispatch information
Officers were dispatched to Evergreen Apartments at approximately 4:19 a.m. following a report from resident Herbert Cole of a single gunshot heard from the direction of Flat 13E.
No additional gunshots, shouting, or sounds consistent with an ongoing disturbance were reported.
Officer narrative
At approximately 4:28 a.m., responding officers arrived at Evergreen Apartments and proceeded to Flat 13E.
The main entrance to the residence was found unlocked. Officers announced their presence and, receiving no response, entered the residence and conducted an initial security sweep.
An adult male, later identified as Joseph Albert Krasinski, was located unresponsive in the living room. The deceased appeared to have sustained a single gunshot wound to the temporal region of the head.
A handgun, later identified as a Glock 19, was located immediately adjacent to the deceased. The weapon was secured and subsequently entered into evidence.
Visible injuries were also observed on the deceased's knuckles and lower forearms, consisting primarily of superficial cuts and abrasions.
During the security sweep, officers observed extensive damage inside the bedroom. The television had been removed from its wall mounting, the mattress had been torn open, and multiple cupboard doors had been pulled from their hinges. Various personal items and furnishings were scattered throughout the room.
No obvious evidence of forced entry was observed at the apartment's main entrance or windows.
No other persons were located inside the residence.
Emergency medical personnel entered the residence after officers determined that no immediate threat remained. Krasinski was examined and pronounced deceased at approximately 4:36 a.m.
A handwritten diary was subsequently located inside a drawer of the study table. Due to the apparent relevance of its contents to the circumstances surrounding the death, the diary was photographed in place and collected as evidence.
A mobile telephone and laptop computer belonging to Krasinski were also recovered from the residence. Both devices appeared to have been recently wiped or reset. They were secured for further examination.
The residence was secured pending further investigation and examination of the scene.
Scene / evidence
The following items and conditions were identified and documented:
- One Glock 19 handgun located immediately adjacent to the deceased.
- One handwritten diary recovered from a drawer in the study table.
- One mobile telephone belonging to the deceased.
- One laptop computer belonging to the deceased.
- Extensive damage to furnishings and property inside the bedroom.
- Superficial cuts and abrasions to the deceased's knuckles and lower forearms.
- No readily apparent signs of forced entry.
- No other persons located inside the residence.
Preliminary inspection of the mobile telephone and laptop indicated that both devices had been recently wiped or factory reset. Both were retained for forensic examination.
Scene photographs were taken prior to the removal or disturbance of evidence.
Supplemental investigation report
CCTV review
Available CCTV footage from the apartment building was reviewed.
Footage showed Krasinski leaving the building during the morning of 07/09, consistent with his reported habit of taking a morning walk.
Krasinski was observed returning to the building later that morning.
No further departures by Krasinski were identified between his return on 07/09 and the time of the incident.
Footage covering the relevant entrances and common areas showed no unidentified person entering Flat 13E during the reviewed period. No activity consistent with a forced entry was observed.
No visitors to Flat 13E were identified during the period under review.
Three residents reported seeing Krasinski at approximately 7:00 a.m. on 07/09 in the downstairs lobby shortly before his morning walk. He was reportedly reading a newspaper, consistent with his usual routine.
Firearm information
The handgun recovered at the scene was identified as a Glock 19 registered to the deceased.
Records showed that Krasinski had legally purchased the firearm approximately eight months prior to the incident.
No conclusion regarding the purpose of the original purchase was made based solely on the date of acquisition.
Diary examination
A preliminary review of the diary recovered from the residence showed that entries preceding 07/09 primarily concerned routine aspects of the deceased's daily life.
Beginning on 07/09, the tone and subject matter changed significantly. The deceased began describing an alleged encounter with an “Entity,” along with repeated references to pain and other unusual sensory experiences.
The following excerpts from the diary are included due to their apparent relevance to the deceased’s state of mind in the days immediately preceding the incident and are considered significant to the investigation.
One entry dated 07/09 contained the following:
“I don’t know why they were killing it him but I could feel his pain right where I could hear his thoughts. It was like someone was squeezing a tiny part of my brain till their fingers bled. I can still feel it behind my eyes.”
The same entry continued:
“He crawled through the rift, 2 hands at a time, each of them had a circle of fingers around it like a flower. He was so beautiful. As he stood on his 8 arms. He spoke to me right away and I understood. I understood them. They were so hurt. They had been through so much. They wanted my help. They knew my pain too.”
The entry then describes a confrontation involving two unidentified individuals and the aforementioned “entity.” The account includes multiple events that the deceased characterized as supernatural.
There are two additional entries dated over the following two days.
On 08/09, the deceased wrote:
“I wish those purple robed fuckers hadn’t killed them. They were in so much pain, they would help me and I would help them. I couldn’t see their face but I didn’t need to. I understood their souls. If only they hadn’t been murdered, I would be one with them. That’s what they wanted. I haven’t thought of anything but them since then. Oh they were in so much pain.”
The deceased went on to describe this “entity” as having eight appendages, with approximately fifteen thumb-like fingers at the end of each one.
He further described the entity as appearing to change shape and wrote that he “just knew they were blue inside.”
He described multiple faces appearing and disappearing across a “thundercloud-like torse-like part” of the entity. Its exterior was described as steel gray and “Like a new type of chrome”.
The final diary entry had been heavily scratched out and was largely illegible. The following partial phrases remained readable:
“-calling me to the-”
“-inally understand wha-”
“-now it will work. It has t-”
“-AVE TO MEET THEM. THE-”
The writings were documented due to their apparent relevance to the deceased's state of mind and actions immediately preceding his death.
No independent conclusion regarding the cause or origin of the experiences described in the diary was made by responding officers.
The diary was retained as evidence for further examination.
Witness statements
Statements were obtained from the occupants of Flats 13A through 13D.
Those interviewed generally described Krasinski's behavior as unremarkable prior to 07/09. No resident interviewed recalled seeing him after his return from his morning walk on 07/09.
Mr. Hailey Frank — Flat 13D
Mr. Frank reported hearing unusual noises from the direction of the deceased's apartment at approximately 2:00 a.m. on 08/09, approximately one day prior to the discovery of the body.
He stated:
“I do remember hearing something weird around 2 am yesterday, a few crashing or banging noises. Almost sure I heard a huge burp or something too. Something like a burp I mean haha. I am sorry officer I am not a morning person. The only reason I heard him yesterday was because I was up… reading.. the newspaper.”
When asked about the deceased's profession and usual routine, Mr. Frank stated:
“He was a teacher wasn’t he? Yeah I remember. He taught English I believe. He was so well-spoken that fellow. A proper orator if you will. Yeah anyway, he walked back from his school everyday, he mentioned he liked to wind down after dealing with all the children. He walked a lot that fellow. Waste of time if you ask me haha. Just drive am I right? Uhmm. He a- he took a morning stroll too I am pretty sure.”
Mr. Frank appeared shaken during the interview but remained cooperative.
Mrs. Misty Gabe — Flat 13C
Mrs. Gabe appeared visibly distressed upon learning of Krasinski's death.
The relevant portion of her statement was as follows:
“Dear god bless his soul he was so so kind that man was. Oh bless him lord my what a terrible world. I am telling you officers he would never do something like that that man. He was a man of god he was. Well, he never said it but I knew. I knew in my heart and my lord told me. My lord said that Joseph is my man Misty, be good to him you. And I was officer, I swear on my good lord. He could never do something like this officer I am telling you. This is the work of the devil it is. Find him officer. Please. May the lord help you.”
Mrs. Gabe was crying during portions of the interview and repeatedly expressed disbelief regarding the circumstances of the death.
Mr. Herbert Cole — Flat 13B
Mr. Cole was identified as the reporting party.
He stated that he had been awake inside his residence when he heard a single loud noise from the direction of Flat 13E which he believed to be a gunshot.
After hearing no further sounds, Mr. Cole contacted emergency services.
When questioned regarding Krasinski or any unusual activity preceding the incident, Mr. Cole stated that he had no additional information and reported having had little contact with the deceased.
He terminated the interview shortly afterward and returned to his apartment.
During subsequent activity in the hallway, officers observed Mr. Cole looking out from his partially opened apartment door on several occasions.
No further statement was obtained from him at that time.
Ms. Jade Abbot — Flat 13A
When asked about Mr. Cole's behavior and his relationship with other residents, Ms. Abbot stated:
“Yeahh, uh, he just keeps to himself. For the most part. I don’t really know much. You could ask Mrs. Gabe.”
Ms. Abbot became visibly distressed during questioning regarding Krasinski and cried on two occasions.
When asked to describe her relationship with the deceased, she stated:
“I-No I didn’t really know him that well. He-he was nice? I know he volunteered at the library and that he was planning to sell his old car soon. I think, I-I can’t be sure. We really only just said hellos and his and uh that’s about it.”
Ms. Abbot then remained silent for an extended period before adding:
“H-he d-did ask me to uh, to-to accompany him to some event that was supposed to be today but I think I told him I had a meeting.”
Ms. Abbot was unable to provide additional information regarding the planned event.
Following the interview, she returned to her apartment.
Medical response
Emergency medical personnel determined that Krasinski exhibited no signs of life and injuries incompatible with resuscitation.
The final determination regarding cause and manner of death was deferred to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Notifications
Ms. Krasinski resides outside the city.
Ms. Krasinski was informed of her brother's death and provided with contact information for the investigating department and Medical Examiner's Office.
Disposition
The deceased was released to the custody of the Medical Examiner's Office at approximately 7:18 a.m.
The Glock 19, diary, mobile telephone, laptop computer, and other documented property of evidentiary value were retained by the investigating department.
The residence remained secured during completion of the scene examination.
Investigation pending completion of medical examination, digital forensic review, evidence examination, and any necessary follow-up interviews.
